Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still benefit from athletic therapy if i’m not an athlete?
Yes absolutely! Being an athlete doesn’t have to mean you play for a team. An athlete is anyone who enjoys gardening on the weekend, hikes, walks, dances in the living room, plays with children, runs, yoga and so many more. Living an active lifestyle takes many forms and athletic therapy is here to support all of it.
What’s the difference between athletic therapy and physiotherapy?
Athletic therapy and physiotherapy have many similarities in that both professions can assess an injury, use manual therapy to support the injury, and provide exercises. Where they differ is athletic therapists are specialists in musculoskeletal injuries in the athletic population. Where athletic therapy treatments with Jenn differ from many professionals is that her appointments use no gadgets or perceived “quick fixes” to heal injuries. She uses information from her clients history, her assessment, and her extensive knowledge of the human body to inform the manual therapy techniques she uses during treatment.
I noticed that jenn’s treatments involve exercise prescription and i don’t exercise. how does this work?
It is important that you get a rehabilitation program that is specific to you, your injury needs, and your lifestyle. There are no cookie-cutter exercise program consisting of a large number of exercises. Jenn discusses your injury and lifestyle with you and develops a rehabilitation plan that involves a realistic number of exercises and lifestyle modifications to support your injury. If you have a very busy schedule and can only do 1 modification/exercises, then that is okay. Jenn believes that even small steps can have a big impact on your bodies ability to heal.
is athletic therapy covered under beneftits?
Many major insurance carriers have athletic therapy available to their members, it greatly depends on what box your employer has ticked. If you have a health spending account, you can claim your treatments under that. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jenn.
i don’t have benefits for athletic therapy, is seeing jenn worth paying out of pocket?
Jenn gets this question often. It can be challenging to decide to pay out of pocket for a service that a similar profession can cover under benefits. Jenn has spent the majority of her career easing the pain and body dysfunction of clients who have “seen so many people for this with no relief.” She has helped patients work through complex pain and dysfunction by supporting their physical, emotional, and mental discomforts. Her experience has shown her that physical pain can be a symptom of emotional discomfort and focuses her manual therapy techniques around calming the bodies nervous system down to allow the body a chance to tap into it’s innate healing abilities. Often times, seeing Jenn from the start has costed less time and money than seeing a professional covered under benefits.
